and we danced until we died

I bore the shadows of my mother today
the unfilled prophecy of a life kept at bay
wondering and worrying
where I went astray
and I held my breath

and the echoes of judgment rang in my ears
from those I love and who bring me to tears
doubting and daring
when I’ll lose my fears
and I closed my eyes

and the wind blew hard
and the rain cut through
this half-lived heart
this half-lived truth

then you
you held my hand
you chased the shadows away
kept my demons at bay
and we danced until we died

I saw the glare in the mirror again
reflecting the words from an unspoken friend
choosing and changing
why it had to end
and I felt my heart

and the wind blew hard
and the rain cut through
this half-lived heart
this half-lived truth

then you
you held my hand
you chased the shadows away
kept my demons at bay
and we danced until we died

and we danced until we died
