the lines of a poem.

I read a familiar poem
just the other day.
the verses flowed gently
across my eyes as they swayed
over the lines and depths
of a soul set free
reaching out like a mirror
calling only to me.

once again, it drew me in
and I paused to reflect
on how it once felt
the first time of connect
and how I carry this poem
deep down in my heart
unwilling to forget
the words like an art.

painted like a landscape
across my memory it lays
this poem that I read
pulls me away
freezing my thoughts
in a dance I once knew
then like sand in my hands
the words fall straight through

and land back in their place
as it comes into view
this poem that I protect
is a faded photo of you.
so I set it back down
turn away once again
knowing I’ll still read it
every now and then.
