this soft heart

what prevents the softness of a heart
to not turn hard
when it has every reason
to recast into stone
holding onto damages
as if they were temporary wounds
that will fade with time
but they only arrive again
as if they were freshly struck
and the heart absorbs them
and looks past them
towards some sort of reprieve
that will rebeat it’s rhythm
instead of building a fortress
from within
that will never again
be penetrated
with ancient whispers
that echo through empty chambers
what prevents the softness of a heart
to not turn hard
to what once was
