it sings again

the coffee tastes bitter
as my pen runs out of ink
the train’s late again
and I’ve had too much time to think
the words on this page
laugh back in my face
they’ve been placed here before
faded lines that have been traced

what more can this heart say?
every verse has been laid
and it’s chorus has played
and still, it sings again
unwavering, it sings again

I turn away from the train
as it rolls up to me
just one more attempt
before I set it all free
I pick up the pen
and I jot it all down
replace a few lines
turn it’s meaning around

what more can this heart say?
every verse has been laid
and it’s chorus has played
and still, it sings again
unwavering, it sings again

I hesitate at the door
to remember the rhyme
much easier to stay and sing
just one more time
