when it thunders

there’s a warmth in the night air
summer bleeding through the trees
she takes her coffee
finds a corner
to rest inside her mind

she waits for these nights
as it brings her release
like a cloak of disappearance
she closes her eyes
and falls in too deep

she only cries when it thunders
tears flow down when it rains
screams out loud in a night storm
hoping to drown out the pain

it’s a different kind of ache
burning from the soul
a distant calling
shadowed words
echoing in the clouds

she only cries when it thunders
tears flow down when it rains
screams out loud in a night storm
hoping to drown out the pain
she only cries when it thunders
