to watch you go

you lean into me
I push back onto you
gently forward
guiding you through
unmarked avenues
turning down
darkened tunnels
unknown depth
unsure steps
you turn around
I disappear
standing frozen
you take one step
at a time
and each becomes
stronger
until you find your way
and rarely look back
as your life becomes yours
how painfully lucky I am
to watch you go
