just to know

just to know
that between the lines
of who you were meant
to be
and who you have decided
to become
there was a window
that paused before closing
and offered
a moment
for you to slide in
and let your shoulders
let down
your breath

just to know
that love
painted the trim
around that window
to surround you
as you entered
as you came home
as you fell
as you knew
that darkness
would never conquer
the light
that pushed back
upon its pane

just to know
that open windows
give life
give hope
to broken dreams
and yesterday’s stains

just to know
that the breeze
passes through
each day
each night
breathing in
breathing out
as the window
is paused
