the soil

it’s not the wind
that breaks down
the strength of a tree

it’s not the rain
that wears through
the desire of a tree

it’s not the sun
that fades out
the light of a tree

it’s the emptiness
of the soil
where roots
intertwine with hope
and deny it to
burst its love
onto life

just as
the emptiness
of a heart
generates lifeless dreams
to one’s soul
holding love back
from its journey
