surface

he always knew
the shattered glass
that found stillness
deep within
would make its way
to the surface
once again
after motionless existence

and as it emerged
bit by bit
its sharp journey
would spring
the gatekeepers back
and each searing cut
would overburden
the gallant resistance
whose promise
was too shadowing
to bear

and as light
became lost
walls crumbled
and surrender
was gained
he fell to his knees
and prayed
for time
to pass through the hour glass
and for darkness
to show him the way home
