held frameless

she is just a photograph
in black and white
sharp contrasts
that never bleed
past their edges
held frameless
dust drifts on and off
the edges
always remaining
behind your reach
there she smiles
but only in her eyes
as she looks back
into you
your depth
your promise
that when the river bed
reveals its cracks
and the night sky
holds blown out candles
you will save her
and bring her back
to life
