silence is the echo

this submissive heart
tender from use
wrapped up tightly
in a woven thorn shield

rattling voices inside
calling out
without piercing through
because silence is the echo

reaching your ears
in the dampness
of the rain soaked basin
that you have withdrawn into

and as the stark coldness
lays plentiful between
your bodily outline
and my longing fingertips

I sigh with resolve
and you burn with regret
