The Rise

rise

as the shade from the weeping willow tree
comes creeping towards my fears
I clutch the ground beneath my knees
and wipe away false tears

nothing stands beneath me
that I can’t keep below
I’ve played that song a million times
it’s got no where to grow

rhyme and reason has its place
and its journey has held me strong
shifting my heart’s perspective
as I’ve stumbled along

with half this life behind me
and half yet to reveal
no step without purpose
regardless of appeal

falling down is easy
some days I trip on my own thoughts
but nothing is like rising
and the rise
oh, yes, the rise
is worth more than the cost
