Serendipity

it’s not in the way that you breathe
between each breath
as your voice unfolds
it’s not in the way that you sway
from side to side
when the beat is right

it’s just in the way
it’s all in the way
that I see you there
behind the wall
too far to grasp
or hold at all

and it’s killing me slowly
as I walk away from you
unable to tell you
that this just might be
serendipity

it’s not in the way that you stare
across the crowd
or an empty room
it’s not in the way that you shine
without a light
as you stand alone

it’s just in the way
it’s all in the way
that I see you there
behind the wall
too far to grasp
or hold at all

and it’s killing me slowly
as I walk away from you
unable to tell you
that this just might be
serendipity
