this damn life

this damn life
in all its beauty
in all its moments
of breathless hope
that I stumble upon
I am reminded
of its insecurities
and awkwardly built frames
that I place around the possibility
of love

and then I unfold
exhale
breathe in deeply again
until the surface of my longing
feathers back to allow chance
to flood the vastness

and I release the fire
unintentionally burning the path

standing alone
I look upon the ruins
wondering
if only I knew
how to stroke a fire
rather than set ablaze
this damn life
